Around the world, journalists are increasingly being killed. They die in the crossfire. They die at the hand of criminals and corupt goverments. They die in tragic accidents. In the case of targeted deaths, these acts are meant to bury both the storytellers and the stories they are driven to write. This film takes us inside the stories of journalists who gave their lives, beginning February 2002, with Wall Street Journal Reporter Daniel Pearl.
The documentary profiles some fatal deaths of journalists of the 46 reporters who were killed or murdered as a direct result of their work from January 2002 through April 2003. The subjects include Daniel Pearl, who was murdered by terrorists; David Bloom, who died while covering the Iraqi invasion; Taras Protsyuk, who was killed by shells from an American tank; Tim Lopes, who was murdered after doing a story on drugs and child prostitution in Rio; Raffaele Ciriello, who was blasted by an Israeli tank; and Edgar Damalerio, an investigative journalist killed by police for writing about governmental and police corruption.
